It's D-1 to D-Day
Agust D, aka Suga, aka Min Yoongi, aka Meow Meow, aka Yoongles, it's time to do the thing.
This is like completing the cosmic loop.
Once upon a time, like in the dark days of 5 years ago, I heard some stuff by a Korean rapper named Agust D. It was complex, deep, spit with authority, and clever as hell. The dude carried himself with intelligent anger, righteous cockiness, and a sly sense of humor. Or as he would say, Shibal swag.
He seemed spiritually aligned with one of my favorites, Eminem. I’m a D-girl, as in Detroit - I literally grew up on 8 Mile (nope, not the same stretch Marshall did, I’m from the nicer part. But we’re both East-siders.)
I started digging a little more into this Agust D cat, and to my shock, he was in a boy band? What hell is BTS? He has to dance? His hair has been pink? And mint? He has worn pink silky PJ’s with no undies on national TV in Korea? He has been dragged out of a love hotel after setting the bed on fire?
HAJIMA!
And yes, that is when I fell far into the BTS wormhole, discovering my favorite songs in their huge discography were written by him. Tomorrow. Autumn Leaves. 134340. Love Maze. Paradise.
Min Yoongi, you were the gateway drug.
So when the D-Day tour was announced, I knew I had to try to be there. Chicago was the closest stop, and the only day I could go was May 5. The Ticketmaster devil overlords cooperated, and I found tickets for non-premium pricing. I’m in the nosebleeds, but I don’t care. I am in the house, bringing my iPhone and my Army bomb.
I was excited to see BTS in LA in 2021, and they blew my mind.
I am ready for Min Yoongi to take my soul. Hey ho!
I’ve prepared the goodies, making 50 little purple pouches with photo cards, stickers, and some watermelon (Suga High) Jolly Ranchers. Yes, I have a sly sense of humor, like the Meow Meow himself. (And it is very appropriate that my diva feline, Sophia, insisted on assisting with the Min Yoongi assembly process.)
So anyways. I have seen the show online, through microwave-quality streams. I know what to expect, which is good, so I can really focus on the cool stuff. I am ready to gleefully butcher Korean, with the rest of the crowd, and take in the spectacle that is Agust D/Suga/Min Yoongi.
I will totally report back on all of it.
Are you going to see Suga? Let me know your thoughts!
I’m off to see Suga in Chicago too! Hope you have the best time and looking forward to seeing your thoughts on the show!
Have fun! I won’t be there but am enjoying the footage that has been shared all over SM.
